Last updated: July 27, 2026
Overview
Rory ("Rory," "we," "us," or "our") is a walking companion app for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use Rory and this website.
By using Rory, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app or site.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use Rory, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Activity and wellness data you choose to share, such as step counts, walking goals, streaks, and related progress information.
- Data from Apple Health or other connected services, if you grant permission in iOS settings.
- App usage information, such as feature interactions, crash reports, and performance diagnostics.
- Device and technical information, such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, and general region.
- Support communications if you contact us, including the content of your message and any information you choose to provide.
How we use information
We use information to operate, improve, and support Rory, including to:
- Display your walking progress, goals, streaks, and in-app encouragement.
- Sync or read step-related data when you connect Apple Health or similar services.
- Maintain app reliability, debug issues, and protect against abuse or fraud.
- Understand aggregate usage patterns so we can improve the product.
- Respond to support requests and communicate important service updates.
Apple Health and permissions
Rory may request access to health and motion-related data through Apple frameworks such as HealthKit and Core Motion. We only access the categories you approve in iOS permission prompts.
You can change or revoke Health permissions at any time in the iPhone Settings app. If you revoke access, some Rory features may no longer work as expected.
Apple Health data is handled according to Apple's platform rules and your device settings. We do not use HealthKit data for advertising, and we do not sell HealthKit data.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in limited circumstances:
- With service providers who help us run Rory, such as hosting, analytics, crash reporting, or customer support tools, under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- When required by law, regulation, legal process, or a valid government request.
- To protect the rights, safety, and security of Rory, our users, or others.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
Data retention
We keep information only as long as needed to provide Rory, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
If you delete the app or request deletion of your data, we will delete or anonymize personal information when it is no longer needed, unless we must retain certain records for legal or security reasons.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing.
You can manage many permissions directly on your iPhone, including Health, motion, and notification settings.
To make a privacy request, contact us at support@rory.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Children's privacy
Rory is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
If you access Rory from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those locations may have different data protection laws than your home country.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, when appropriate, provide additional notice in the app or on this site. Continued use of Rory after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy.
